What are the 4 Medical Device Parks in India?

India has initiated the development of several medical device parks to bolster domestic manufacturing and reduce reliance on imports. Notably, two sets of approvals have been granted for such parks:

1. Approved in 2019:

  • Andhra Pradesh: The Andhra Pradesh MedTech Zone (AMTZ) in Visakhapatnam is a prominent medical device manufacturing hub.
  • Telangana: The Medical Devices Park in Hyderabad, established in 2017, spans 250 acres and supports medical technology innovation and manufacturing.
  • Tamil Nadu: A medical device park is planned in the Oragadam Industrial Corridor, Kancheepuram District.
  • Kerala: The Bio 360 Life Sciences Park in Thiruvananthapuram focuses on biotechnology and life sciences, including medical devices.

2. Approved in 2021:

  • Himachal Pradesh: A park is planned in the Baddi Barotiwala Nalagarh area, Solan District.
  • Madhya Pradesh: The proposed location is in the Pithampur-Dhar-Mhow Region, Vikram Udyogpuri Limited, Ujjain District.
  • Tamil Nadu: Another park is planned in the Oragadam Industrial Corridor, Kancheepuram District.
  • Uttar Pradesh: The park is to be established in Sector 28 of YEIDA Phase I, Gautam Buddh Nagar District.

These initiatives aim to provide state-of-the-art infrastructure, promote innovation, and reduce production costs in the medical device sector, aligning with the ‘Make in India’ initiative.
