India has initiated the development of several medical device parks to bolster domestic manufacturing and reduce reliance on imports. Notably, two sets of approvals have been granted for such parks:
1. Approved in 2019:
- Andhra Pradesh: The Andhra Pradesh MedTech Zone (AMTZ) in Visakhapatnam is a prominent medical device manufacturing hub.
- Telangana: The Medical Devices Park in Hyderabad, established in 2017, spans 250 acres and supports medical technology innovation and manufacturing.
- Tamil Nadu: A medical device park is planned in the Oragadam Industrial Corridor, Kancheepuram District.
- Kerala: The Bio 360 Life Sciences Park in Thiruvananthapuram focuses on biotechnology and life sciences, including medical devices.
2. Approved in 2021:
- Himachal Pradesh: A park is planned in the Baddi Barotiwala Nalagarh area, Solan District.
- Madhya Pradesh: The proposed location is in the Pithampur-Dhar-Mhow Region, Vikram Udyogpuri Limited, Ujjain District.
- Tamil Nadu: Another park is planned in the Oragadam Industrial Corridor, Kancheepuram District.
- Uttar Pradesh: The park is to be established in Sector 28 of YEIDA Phase I, Gautam Buddh Nagar District.
These initiatives aim to provide state-of-the-art infrastructure, promote innovation, and reduce production costs in the medical device sector, aligning with the ‘Make in India’ initiative.
