Summary:
Medicover Hospital has opened a dedicated liver clinic in Navi Mumbai to address the rising cases of liver diseases by focusing on early detection and long-term care. The clinic offers structured screening and advanced diagnostic tests to identify high-risk individuals—especially those with conditions like diabetes, obesity, hepatitis, and lifestyle-related risks—since many liver diseases show no early symptoms. By enabling timely diagnosis and preventive care, the facility aims to slow or prevent disease progression and improve overall liver health outcomes.
Medicover Hospital has introduced a specialized liver clinic in Navi Mumbai in response to the increasing incidence of fatty liver disease, hepatitis, alcohol-related liver damage, and other metabolic liver conditions.
The facility aims to enable early diagnosis and ongoing management of liver disorders through organized screening and comprehensive diagnostic assessments. Contributing factors such as diabetes, obesity, hypothyroidism, inactive lifestyles, alcohol consumption, hepatitis B and C infections, autoimmune diseases, and genetic predisposition are driving the rise in liver-related ailments.
Since many individuals remain asymptomatic in the initial stages, liver disease is often detected only after advancing to fibrosis, cirrhosis, or even liver failure. Dr. Vikram Dharap, consultant gastroenterologist, hepatologist, and therapeutic endoscopist, stated that the clinic prioritizes early identification of high-risk patients through focused screening and in-depth evaluation.
He explained that the goal is to detect the condition at an early stage and prevent or slow its progression. The screening programme is particularly advised for people with diabetes, obesity, hypothyroidism, alcohol use, hepatitis B or C, a family history of liver disease, or autoimmune liver disorders.
The clinic also emphasizes preventive liver care for selected high-risk groups and provides diagnostic services such as FibroScan, liver function tests (LFT), complete blood counts (CBC), triple marker tests (where required), and abdominal ultrasound examinations. These investigations help evaluate fat accumulation, inflammation, fibrosis, and overall liver function.
