India’s Kalawati Saran Children’s Hospital (KSCH), which operates under Lady Hardinge Medical College (LHMC), is undergoing an expansion that will increase its capacity from 394 beds to 894 beds.
According to a government press release, the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit capacity will be expanded from 40 to 200 beds, while the number of operation theatres will rise from four to 12. Construction work is currently in progress on the KSCH campus.
Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda has instructed that development projects at LHMC, KSCH and Smt. Sucheta Kriplani Hospital follow a patient-focused and future-ready design, incorporating practices followed by leading healthcare institutions.
Nadda also directed officials to promptly refer any issues related to approvals and clearances to the Ministry and ensure that the recruitment of doctors, nurses and other healthcare personnel moves forward alongside the construction work.
He further called for the preparation of a long-term master plan based on phased development and suggested that partnerships with the private sector could be considered wherever suitable.
