India’s food safety regulator, FSSAI, said on Sunday that six food companies have taken corrective measures, including removing misleading label claims and trademarks, after receiving notices for regulatory violations. In a social media update, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) said the six Food Business Operators (FBOs) responded promptly to the notices and implemented corrective steps. These measures included withdrawing misleading claims and modifying product packaging to improve consumer safety and ensure compliance with regulations. Companies That Corrected Misleading Labels FSSAI said Livyor Ventures Pvt. Ltd. removed the misleading “vegan & healthy” claims from its product, Livyor Roasted Edamame Beans. In its response to the regulator, the company said the claims were printed on the packaging unintentionally because of a lack of awareness about the applicable rules. The company expressed regret and apologised for the violation, while assuring FSSAI that similar non-compliance would not occur again. It has also started revising its product labels and is destroying existing packaging carrying the non-compliant claims. Honest Innovations For You Pvt. Ltd. and Heliostone Specialities Pvt. Ltd. have also modified their misleading trademarks. Rajasthan Agro and General Industries complied with the notice by removing all misleading claims and discontinuing the use of the PPM. Iota Nanotechnology Pvt. Ltd. removed misleading statements from its product label and stopped manufacturing non-standardised water. Meanwhile, Panchamurtha Industries Pvt. Ltd. removed its electrolyte drink product from its website. Over the past several months, FSSAI has intensified enforcement against food business operators for regulatory violations, including action targeting energy drink manufacturers and alcoholic beverage companies.
