Global investment firm KKR has signed definitive agreements for funds managed by the company to acquire Medicover India, the Indian hospital business of international healthcare and diagnostics provider Medicover AB (Nasdaq Stockholm: MCOV B). Founded in 2017, Medicover India operates a network of 24 multi-specialty hospitals with nearly 4,800 beds across South and West India. The healthcare provider offers services in more than 80 medical specialties, backed by over 1,900 doctors, advanced medical infrastructure, and modern technology, delivering care to millions of patients annually. KKR said the investment reflects its confidence in the long-term growth potential of India's healthcare sector. As the country continues to pursue the goals outlined in the National Health Policy 2017, continued investment in healthcare infrastructure, clinical expertise, digital technologies, and innovation is expected to strengthen the delivery of quality healthcare across India. Commenting on the acquisition, Akshay Tanna, Partner and Head of India Private Equity at KKR, said the firm is excited to support Medicover India in its next phase of growth by investing in its workforce, technology, infrastructure, and clinical capabilities while maintaining strong governance and operational excellence. He added that the investment will help empower the company's doctors and employees to enhance patient care, expand access to advanced medical services, and improve health outcomes across the communities it serves. Since 2004, KKR has invested more than US$20 billion in the global healthcare sector, supporting healthcare providers and related businesses through investments in technology, infrastructure, clinical capabilities, and service expansion. In India, the firm has made investments across healthcare delivery, medical technology, and allied healthcare services. The acquisition remains subject to the required regulatory approvals. Financial terms and other details of the transaction have not been disclosed.
