India Supplies Measles Vaccines and Medical Aid to Maldives as Infections Rise

India has sent 20,000 doses of measles vaccine along with nearly three tonnes of medical supplies to the Maldives to support the country’s efforts to contain rising measles infections and strengthen immunisation programmes.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the Ministry of External Affairs said the consignment had been delivered as part of India’s ongoing support to the island nation. The Maldives Ministry of Foreign Affairs thanked India for the prompt assistance, describing it as a reflection of the strong partnership and cooperation shared by the two countries.

The Maldives Ministry of Health also expressed its gratitude through a post on X, acknowledging India’s consistent and dependable support in protecting public health. The medical supplies were formally handed over during an official event attended by Maldives Minister of Health, Family and Welfare, Geela Ali.

According to the MEA, the assistance underscores India’s role as a trusted first responder in the region and aligns with its Neighbourhood First policy and Vision MAHASAGAR (Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions), under which the Maldives remains a key partner.

Earlier in the day, Indian High Commissioner to the Maldives, G. Balasubramanian, met State Pharma Managing Director Shah Mahir to discuss opportunities for further enhancing cooperation in the healthcare sector between the two countries.
