RML Hospital Launches Heatstroke Helpline Amid Soaring Summer Temperatures

With North India bracing for an intense summer, Centre-run RML Hospital has launched a dedicated heatstroke helpline (011-23404446) to ensure timely medical intervention for those affected by extreme heat. The helpline allows the public to report cases where individuals are found unconscious or suddenly fall ill due to high temperatures, enabling swift medical assistance.

Dr. Ajay Shukla, Medical Superintendent at RML Hospital, said the hospital has also reactivated its specialized heatstroke unit, now equipped with advanced medical technology to effectively treat heat-related conditions.

“Heatstroke occurs when body temperature exceeds 105°F,” explained Dr. Amlendu Yadav, Head of Emergency Medicine. “At that point, the body’s ability to regulate temperature—mainly through sweating—fails. The patient may lose consciousness or exhibit severely altered mental status.”

He warned that heatstroke can be fatal, with mortality rates reaching up to 80% if not treated promptly. However, with early diagnosis and immediate care, the risk can be reduced to as low as 10%, Dr. Shukla added.
